Renewable energy is a core priority for the EIB in emerging economies as it provides the conditions needed for sustainable economic development, both in terms of the environment and enabling businesses to evolve.

At this workshop in our Brussels office on Wednesday 26 April, we will explore several different ways we can provide finance for renewable energy projects outside the EU. These include direct support of wind farms, as well as investments in funds which provide equity financing to early stage green projects and funds that lend to microfinance institutions for them to develop a loan portfolio dedicated to micro-projects in the solar energy, irrigation and drinking water sectors.

We will hear from Alessandro Boschi, Head of the Renewable Energy Division at the EIB, who will explain how the EIB supports this kind of projects.

In addition we will also welcome Anders Hauch, Investment Director and Partner of Frontier Investment Management, an investment fund with a unique focus on renewable energy power projects in less developed emerging markets in which the Global and Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Fund (GEEREF) invested. Aglaé Touchard-Le Drian, EIB Senior Investment Officer, will complement Ander’s intervention on GEEREF.

Also to be presented is the PAMIGA Water and Renewable Energy through Microfinance project, by Renée Chao-Beroff, General Manager of PAMIGA.

Finally we will hear about the Tafila Wind Farm, thanks to Samer S. Judeh, Chairman of the Jordan Wind Project Company.

A sandwich lunch will be provided ahead of the event, and a networking coffee will take place afterwards.
